PlateSage makes metabolic health simple—so you can feel better and see what's working. Browse the FAQs below for quick answers.
Getting Started
What is PlateSage?
PlateSage is a nutrition and metabolic health app that helps you understand your meals, movement, and body ratios through one clear system—so you can make steady progress with less friction.
Which devices are supported?
PlateSage is currently available on iPhone (iOS) and Apple Watch.
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes. PlateSage includes a 3-day free trial. You can cancel anytime through Apple before the trial ends to avoid being charged.
How do I set up my account?
Download PlateSage from the App Store and create an account. During setup, you'll enter basic info (like age, height, weight, and activity level) so your plan and targets are personalized. You can optionally add waist and hip measurements to enable the full Body Balance experience.
Logging Meals and Nutrition
How do I log meals?
PlateSage supports multiple ways to log:
Snap a photo of your meal for an AI estimate of nutrition
Scan a barcode for packaged foods
Search and log manually using the food library
Create custom foods/recipes for home meals or repeat items
What if the AI misidentifies my meal?
You can edit any meal entry. Treat the AI as a starting point and adjust:
Food item selections
Portion sizes
Ingredients (especially sauces, oils, toppings)
Show all ingredients and portion sizes for greatest accuracy
Can I add my own foods or recipes?
Yes. You can create custom foods and recipes, save them, and reuse them later—helpful for home cooking or repeat meals.
How accurate are nutrition estimates?
All nutrition tracking involves estimation (especially with mixed meals and restaurant foods). PlateSage is designed to be directionally accurate and easy to correct. The goal is consistency over perfection—small corrections over time beat perfect logging for one week.
Can I log restaurant meals?
Yes. You can use photo logging as a quick estimate, or search for a similar item and adjust portions/ingredients.
Exercise Logging and Activity Tracking
Can I log exercise directly in PlateSage?
Yes. You can log workouts inside PlateSage—no Apple Health connection required.
Does PlateSage sync workouts with Apple Health?
Yes. PlateSage can read workouts from Apple Health and also write workouts you log in PlateSage back to Apple Health.
Should I still use Apple Health (or Apple Watch) for workouts?
Yes. PlateSage's workout logging is meant for convenience. If you use Apple Watch or other fitness apps, Apple Health is still the best place to track everything consistently. Apple Watch in particular will add to accuracy because it captures your heart rate during exercise, which is crucial.
Why don't I see every Apple Health workout type in PlateSage?
PlateSage includes a curated subset of workout types to keep logging fast and simple. It's intended as a convenience logging tool—not a full replacement for Apple Health's complete workout library.
How are workouts organized in PlateSage?
Workouts are grouped into categories:
All
Cardio
Strength
Flexibility
Sports
Daily Activities
You can also favorite workouts for quick access and tap Add Custom Exercise if you don't see what you want.
How do workouts work in PlateSage?
PlateSage workouts follow a simple structure:
Choose a category
Select an exercise (or tap Add Custom Exercise)
Pick a duration (commonly 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes)
PlateSage estimates calories burned and logs the workout (and syncs it to Apple Health)
How does PlateSage estimate calories burned?
Calorie burn is an estimate based on workout type, duration, and your profile. It's best used as a directional signal rather than a precise measurement.
Workout Troubleshooting
I'm seeing duplicate workouts—why?
Duplicates usually happen when the same workout is recorded more than once—for example:
You logged it in PlateSage and your Apple Watch also recorded it, or
Another app also wrote the workout to Apple Health
How do I fix duplicates?
Delete one copy of the duplicate workout (Apple Health is usually the best place to remove it so it stays consistent everywhere).
Going forward, either log the session in PlateSage or rely on Watch auto-tracking for that session—not both.
Can I edit or delete workouts?
Yes. You can edit or delete workouts logged in PlateSage. If a workout originated from Apple Health (e.g., an Apple Watch workout), you may need to edit/delete it in Apple Health for the change to persist across apps.
What Apple Health permissions does PlateSage need?
To sync workouts, PlateSage may request permission to:
Read workout/activity data from Apple Health
Write workouts logged in PlateSage to Apple Health
You can change permissions anytime in: iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → PlateSage
Body Balance Score and Goals
What is the Body Balance Score?
Body Balance is PlateSage's single score that helps you understand progress across multiple health signals—so you're not stuck obsessing over weight alone. It blends movement, body ratios, and nutrition quality into one clear indicator you can improve over time.
How often does my score update?
Your score updates as you log meals and activity and refreshes over time to reflect your recent trends.
How does PlateSage personalize my plan?
PlateSage tailors targets and guidance based on:
Your profile details (like age, height, weight, activity level)
Your goal (e.g., improve energy, lose weight, get stronger)
Your logging patterns over time
Can I change my goals later?
Yes. You can update your goal any time in Settings, and PlateSage will adjust guidance accordingly.
Streaks are a simple way to reinforce consistency. PlateSage is designed around progress over perfection—small wins, repeated, lead to meaningful change.
Meal Streak
Log at least one meal
Super Streak
Log 3+ meals in a day
Energy Streak
Stay above your 90-day active energy number
Why does PlateSage emphasize small wins?
Because sustainable results come from repeatable habits. PlateSage aims to reduce guilt-based feedback and keep you focused on what you can do next.

02

Does PlateSage sell my personal data?
No. PlateSage does not sell your personal data.
